2014 'YOUTH ARISE' TRAINING PROFILE

INTRODUCTION

In terms of numerical strength, Nigeria remains the most populous country in Africa with larger percentage comprising of young people.

Exploring the antecedent of young people in Nigeria, youths have played sizable and momentous roles before and after independence.  From agricultural development to economic expansion; fostered through vocational creativity in line with cultural diversities; seasoned in entrepreneurship skills with penchant for business development, distinct in administrative styles with root to sound educational performance and characterized by prompt and pragmatic leadership with an unbiased political engagement just to mention a few.

However, in the last three decades, things have fallen apart and the story has not been the same.  Young people have relaxed their nerves while the old struggle with their muscles.  The Change Agents have seemingly become tools for oppression and destruction.

While we celebrate the scholastic and technological achievement of nations around us as well as the efficacious legacies of young men and women globally, our world swim in abject perplexity and turmoil; subjugated by political annihilation, distorted by terrorism, undermined by corruption, characterized by economic drain and dilapidating education despite enormous natural resources.

THE NEED

In a society of dormant or partial youth participation, leadership is confused and economic development lingers.  Far beyond the numerical vote, young people are poised to make positive changes considering their imaginative, creative and innovative power.

Rather than depending on the old muscles while the youth remain disillusioned and unprepared for the task ahead of them, Youth Arise, a project symposium with focus on Emancipation, Leadership and Development is borne out of purpose to propel youths towards gainful involvement and investment in the society.

OBJECTIVES

v  Empowering the youth towards positive engagement in development, leadership and good governance;

v  Raising young black CEOs and front-line leaders in business and corporations;

v  Preparing young people for the leadership baton;

FOCUS

In order to achieve the project objectives, three thematic areas will be considered and these shall be the focus of this symposium. They are;

TARGET AUDIENCE

·         Religious Groups Executives

·         Interested Students

The above groups have been selected for effective implementation of plans.  Hence, the participants are expected to step down the knowledge of the symposium at their various domains.

MINDPOWER Training Profile

INTRODUCTION

A youth, according to National Youth Policy of 2009, is someone between the ages of 18 and 35 and this class of people constitutes more than 50% of the total population in Nigeria.

Despite the teeming population of youth as reported by National Population Census, 2006, their qualitative impact has not been fully unveiled and thereby slowing down the pace of development and transformation.

An ideal youth is a person with strong penchant for adventure, development and transformation; passionate, energetic, innovative, creative, mobile, versatile, agile, eager to make positive change and ready to champion positive movement.

With great potentials yet untapped, Nigerian youths have suffered from years of mis-governance and this has not only paralyzed their creative and innovative power but largely incapacitated their youthfulness and usefulness.

Against this background, MINDPOWER, a project symposium with focus on Innovation, Creativity, Youth Emancipation, Development and Transformation was envisioned to empower youths so as to proffer solutions to societal, national and global problems.

THE NEED

Youth are the real wealth of a nation but this will remain abstract without a well-functioning mind. There can never be significant structural development or transformation without first and foremost mind development.  A mind in fresh bloom is poised to see the world anew and come up with fresh innovations - solutions to problems that have sometimes eluded others for ages. In the words of Robert Kennedy, “This world demands the qualities of youth: not a time of life, but a state of mind, a temper of the will, a quality of imagination, a predominance of courage over timidity, of the appetite for adventure over the life of ease.”

OBJECTIVES

*  Emancipating the youth from mental servitude and charting a new path for paradigm shift;

*  Empowering the youth and showing them their place in development, leadership, peace and good governance;

*  Engaging the youth in solving problems through their skills, innovation and creativity;

*  Shaping and sharpening youth vocational skills in a bid to reduce unemployment and promote self-reliance;

*  Raising 21st century young CEOs who will give birth to community integration and national transformation;
