THE ART OF VOLUNTEERISM

INTRODUCTION
It is disheartening today that most youth spend their time on things unnecessary for them. Many look for money they don’t have to buy things they don’t need, to please someone who hate them. People are no more conscious of the fact that success in life is when proper planning is channeled towards a right direction at the right time and when right steps are being taken.

WHAT IS VOLUNTEERISM?
The practice of volunteering in which volunteer workers, especially in community service or educational organizations and programmes execute various developmental projects for the betterment of the world at large

When what you have is not enough to produce what you need, INVEST it in others; when what you have is more than what you need, SHARE it with others; whenever you have nothing to meet your need, call on the people you have served, they will equally served you.

WHO IS A VOLUNTEER?
• Somebody acting voluntarily; somebody who does something voluntarily, especially something undesirable
• Someone who will be willing to plant trees under whose shed he or she will never sit
• Somebody who works for nothing; somebody who works without being paid

Service to others is the rent we pay for our living on earth.

WHAT VOLUNTEERISM IS NOT?
• It is not about money making
• Not about merry making
• Not about fighting for positions and title

WHAT VOLUNTEERISM IS?
• Offering your feather for other people to fly
• Offering your shoulder for other people to stand so that they can see farther in life
• Affecting your generation in the positive

HOW CAN I BE A VOLUNTEER?
• Join a volunteer group and participate fully in all their activities
• Look inward and think on where you can be of help to people

Living is the art of loving. Loving is the art of caring. Caring is the art of sharing. Sharing is the art of living. If you want to lift yourself up, lift up someone else.

WHERE CAN I BE A VOLUNTEER?
Anywhere you find yourself in life

WHAT CAN I VOLUNTEER?
• Time
• Resources both in cash and in kind
• Knowledge and Skills

WHY DO I NEED TO VOLUNTEER?
• To invest into time and future
• To build my capacity in all ramification of life
• To mentor my mates and my senior colleagues
• To register my name forever as the earth remains
• To join the league of high fliers in life

Life can only celebrate you for WHO you are not WHAT you have and WHO you are is a direct product of your CONTRIBUTIONS not your ACQUISITIONS.

WHAT YOU STAND TO GAIN IF YOU VOLUNTEER?
• You will go places and go far in destiny
• You will meet shakers of the world
• You will speak when others listen
• It gives you ample opportunity to lay indelible imprints on the soil of time
• It makes you rich, wealthy and live a fulfilled life in the long term

CONCLUSION
Dear volunteers, life transcends beyond living for nothing. We do not have eternity here on earth, we do not have access to forever, note that the stage is yours only for a limited time. It was said about Steve Jobs when he died that “Life was immeasurably better because of Steve Jobs”. What will people say about you when you are no more?

Start doing something great today to affect humanity in the positive; you shall be glad you did.

Thanks for your time; you will succeed.
