STAND UP, TAKE ACTION AT FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC EDE, OSUN STATE, NIGERIA





 THE ROLE OF YOUTHS IN ACHIEVING MILLENNIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS 

The achievement of MDGs by 2015 will remain dauntingly impossible without the active involvement of youths.  As we know, youths constitute a significant proportion of the global population and hold enormous amount of energy, passion and innovations, all these are needed to effect positive changes in achieving MDGs.  The realization of youths’ inclusion in the achievement of MDGs is a prominent step towards national development.
  
STAND UP, TAKE ACTION FOR THE MILLENNIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS symposium was organized to educate, orientate, sensitize and propel youth towards the achievement of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in Nigeria, especially in Osun State by 2015 deadline. 

Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are 8 time-bound goals which are; 
i. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger 
ii. Achieve universal basic education 
iii. Promote gender equality and empower women
iv. Reduce child mortality 
v. Improve maternal health 
vi. Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases 
vii. Ensure environmental sustainability 
viii. Develop a global partnership for development 

The goal of the symposium is to build youth capacity for better Community Development Service as well as create a platform for the execution of community projects towards the realization of Millennium Development Goals by 2015.

Issues discussed at the symposium are; 
i) Millennium Development Goals in Nigeria: Youth Making Change
ii) Achieving Millennium Development Goals in Nigeria: Strategies and Implementation
iii) Manpower Development towards Achieving Millennium Development Goals in Nigeria

At the end of the symposium, youths were advised to Involve, Invest and Inspire in; 

i. Volunteerism
ii. Entrepreneurship
iii. Awareness creation
iv. Value Re-Orientation and
v. Solve national problem through creativity, inventions, ingenuity, gifting and ICT
